Chicago — The Atlanta Braves acquired Joc Pederson in a trade with the Chicago Cubs on Thursday, bolstering their outfield after losing Ronald Acuña Jr. to a season-ending knee injury.
Atlanta sent minor league first baseman Bryce Ball to Chicago for Pederson, who is batting .230 with 11 homers and 39 RBIs in 73 games. The 29-year-old Pederson spent his first seven seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers before signing with the Cubs in free agency in February.

Dick Tidrow, a former Yankees relief pitcher who played 13 seasons in the big leagues, has died, according to the Associated Press.
The San Francisco native, who died suddenly Saturday in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, was 74.
Tidrow, who was a member of the Yankees’ 1977–78 World Championship teams, was also a long-time member of the San Francisco Giants’ front office.
“Our entire organization is heartbroken by the news of Dick’s passing,” said Larry Baer, the Giants President and CEO. “So much of our success over these past three decades is directly linked to Dick’s contributions. …
For the first time in years, Oracle Park is going to feel like it did during the glory years, when a record sellout streak accompanied a team that won three World Series titles in half a decade.
The Giants are back in first place, and they’ll enter this weekend’s series against the A’s with the biggest division lead — 4 1/2 games — in baseball. Buster Posey and Brandon Crawford are playing like All-Stars, and the starting staff is a strength.
This weekend, Giants fans will even be able to sit back and enjoy a Crazy Crab Sandwich.
Sergio Romo was part of three World Series-winning squads during his career with the Giants, and although he was in the opposite uniform for Friday night’s Bay Bridge Series opener, he felt the love from his former organization.
Romo, now a reliever for the Athletics, appeared to have a nice conversation and handshake with Giants president Larry Baer, before getting a warm embrace from Lou Seal himself.
The 38-year-old was drafted by the Giants in 2005, playing his first nine major league seasons in San Francisco. Romo had a 2.58 ERA over 515 appearances, and also a 3.09 …
SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — For the first time in over a year, Oracle Park is back to full capacity for fans just in time for the Bay Bridge Series.
On Friday, fans will pile in to the Giants home base to watch the team play the Oakland A’s.
The ballpark first opened up in April since the pandemic, but had a slew of safety requirements as California worked to get its residents vaccinated.
It was open at just 22% capacity, and fans were ordered to either show a COVID-19 vaccination card upon entry or have a negative COVID-19 test result…
The San Francisco Giants are coming with the assist in a team-up with the Department of Public Health where two free game tickets will soon be given to individuals who get vaccinated at one of 15 sites across The City.
Starting Friday, the select sites, including the Moscone Center and several neighborhood vaccination clinics, will hand out vouchers that can be used for two free Giants tickets good for games between July and September. The vouchers will be given on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. There are no residency requirements to be eligible.

Baer breaks down Giants’ plans before MLB trade deadline originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
As expected, the Giants are on track to be one of the most interesting teams in baseball before the July 30 trade deadline. But they’re looking like they’ll be on an unexpected side of the market.
The Giants came into this season with a roster full of veterans on one-year deals, and guys like Kevin Gausman, Anthony DeSclafani and Alex Wood looked like they might turn into pretty good trade chips over the first couple months of the season. …
The Giants announced Monday afternoon that they’ve reinstated outfielders Alex Dickerson and from the injured list. Infielder Jason Vosler and, more surprisingly, outfielder LaMonte Wade Jr. were optioned to Triple-A Sacramento to open space on the 26-man roster. It’s a tough break for Wade, who has hit quite well in his first season with San Francisco — albeit in a tiny sample of 94 plate appearances. Acquired in a lopsided deal that sent righty Shaun Anderson to Minnesota — the Twins already lost Anderson on waivers — Wade is hitting .265/.344/.470 …

Look closely and you can still see glory floating like ticker tape in the wind.
Anthony DeSclafani tossed a gem June 11 in Washington, finishing what he started for a rare complete game. After the final out, here it came: Catcher Buster Posey walking to the mound to offer the prize that every Giants pitcher wants.
Giants honor Juneteenth by wearing Sea Lions uniforms originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
In honor of Juneteenth, the Giants broke out special uniforms against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday at Oracle Park, paying tribute to the San Francisco Sea Lions, which competed in the West Coast Negro Baseball Association.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Sea Lions, which played just one season back in 1946.
As the Giants’ social media accounts shared Saturday, the uniforms the Sea Lions wore were given to them by the defunct San Francisco Cubs organization.
